Another Low Culture Spectacle from the USA

I might have been tired from driving all day back from Florida. I might have been on edge just from the basic absurdity of life. I might have been annoyed by the new zillion dollar house they are building next door that completely blocks the sky from the entire southern face of my house. But the re-entry back into my everyday life just happened to coincide with the half-time show for the superbowl and my disgust-o-meter was so far in the red it blew up releasing a noxious gas of embarrassment.

I suppose it is a perfect metaphor when it is really examined: a middle-aged fishnetted hag strutting about in a vulgar Praetorianesque costume. It was a golden extravaganza from a broke-ass country that has doomed the next three generations into debt servitude to her creditors. As she tentatively walked through the hackneyed dance moves and flashed her grandmother vulva, I thought about how often politicians say other countries hate us for our "freedom".

No, no. I don't think that is it.

And besides, what freedom? To broadcast the lowest of low culture around the world? This is what we have to offer? Nikki Minaj!? We have the freedom to have ugly and expensive entertainments, or vote for Pepsi Mitt or Coke oBOMBa but you can forget about buying raw milk from the Amish, or having a grass-fed poultry farm. Or not having your schizz on Google and Facebook sold or being out from under the biological threat of Monsanto.

When I arrived at my sisters house last Friday I was almost inconsolable after reading how the UK (and almost every other country) had successfully banned GMO in their countries while here in Doofusville,  oBOMBa just gave Monsanto the green light to grow GMO alfalfa: the basic forage of livestock. How you like that all you libs that came over here every pre-2008-election day to talk about how terrible W was? Not a freaking peep out of you. Now that your savior has out neoconned the neocons while simultaneously laying down an oppressive federal grid over literally every aspect of american life, you still carry his water which makes the american left the most ideologically bankrupt people on the face of earth.

Last night was, actually, the perfect entertainment for the situation we find ourselves in: a broke, vulgar, frontin' and voguing, haggard pig dressed up in fishnets perched upon a fetid mountain of lies. I could cry - if I weren't a Rottweiler.

My boycott of the leftist media oligarchy extends to "Free" (actually heavily subsidized) TV so I didn't watch the Half-Time Show or any of the yakking and footballing that bookended it. Curious if there was an official "Sponsor" of the half-time show. Let me know so I can decide whether to boycott them too.

The whole notion of "hating US" as in all 300 million-or-so Americans is so absurd to me that I don't pay much attention to any "reasons" talking-heads with any philosophy come up with for the "hatred".

I haven't studied the matter, but my guess is that the most vulgar "american" entertainers are actually MORE popular overseas than they are here. People like Madonna and Michael Jackson. Especially at the obsessive hysterical level of fandom.

And it's my guess that those Nations that have similar lax censorship laws to our own actually produce the same low-level of tawdry tacky vulgar entertainment. It seemed that way to me in England and Denmark anyway.

Ah, she became my haiku muse--I couldn't come up with a second one to enter. God bless vapid narcissism: it is the commodity of choice for the global consumer who thinks he/she is viewing entertainment. It won't be long until the halftime show will be a gladiator show.

This 360 degree change in policy came and went so fast, I think it was done before Super Bowl Sunday because they knew "we" would be too drunk and full to care. But we all should care what's going on in biotech and our food. Obama promised in his State of the Union speech address to cut back on “burdensome” federal regulations that would cost business money. Plus, if we say GMO is bad, then when we tell the Euopeans who won't take or GMO tainted products that maybe it is bad? So, we just look more stupid to just about everyone. WEEEEEE. let's celebrate with commericals selling two things (really) Cars and Beer!

I didn't watch any of it, but now I want to see her show.

Glad to see the Dawg is out!

P.S. Sugar beets are next. We are screwed.

Troll: I could care less if other countries are as vulgar and find that kind of entertainment popular. that isnt my point at all - in the context of the situation we find ourselves in, it is ironic to say the least to have a washed-up has-been parade around in a golden roman costume projecting plastic vitality - when in fact we have become a bunch of plundered chumps. as for who sponsored that? I dont know if I had to guess Id say anybody who manufactures something made with aspertame. Im not going to take the MJ bait.

Susan B: no the real show was the gladiator show. rah rah rah!!! my team wins! but.....Im still a sharecropper on the global plantation. grrrhahahahahaha

lx: I am her same age. However, I know that no one wants to see me act out a menopausal satanic dance routine. There comes a time when a person moves into a different kind of age appropriate life. I chose "country lady with chickens and flowers" as my middle aged identity and am reasonably sure it embarrasses no one.

boxer: oBOMBa operates like a thief in the night -signing shyt on holidays and 4:45 on friday. He is the most FOS figurehead I have ever seen. The worst. and you will probably see 4 more years of him doing lots and lots of damage on his way to his civilian job consulting for Goldman Sachs or GE. rape. plunder. pillage. repeat.

The entire show and I mean the whole time frame of this event, paid homage to low testosterone. Even Clint Eastwood said so; they have us hanging from the T's, the High T's. Hey, but he got paid anyways. The whole event had the flavor of Wal-Mart Farm Fresh Chicken served on a Wonderbread Bun, washed down with Great Value Diet Cola. I can say no more, I'm going to the bathroom; I'll be right back.... But don't wait.

I know its a waste of my time but at least is a rant kennel for me. I didnt see the clint eastwood commercial...what did he say? get your flabby asses off the lazy boy and put the faux esprit de corps you feel for some dopey team to real use - like bucking up against, oh say, the TSA feeling up your daughter? You hit the nail on the head with that menu. Good to see ya, Q!!

Actually I watched the halftime show WITH "W" at his Crawford ranch. We put back a case of Shiner Bocks and both agreed that we preferred this version of Gladiator to the Russell Crowe turd. Then I won a $10 bet when I proved to him that Monsanto never played third base for the Chicago Cubs.

Freedom is about choice, but it is also knowing the differences within the choice--informed and objective discernment. With a media prosletizing propaganda and a populace somatized by Apple products and dumbass toys, freedom is a dish best left for those who still have an appetite.

well, go on then. Have your shriek at us.
I'm sure we can ALL find something wrong with President Obama...but, I really don't get it.
I really don't.
Nobody hates Bush junior for his agriculture works...
We hates him because he LIED to start a war that got over 4300 of our troops killed, hid the costs from us till two weeks prior to defecting to a state that continues to squeak out calls about seceding, and trying to make as much money as he can from the harvest of death.
President Obama isn't a savior, either.
I think the hard right pinged your ears enough that you may believe the lies, now.
But, are you upset over something else?
I mean, you started in on Miss Muscles and vagina, then slid down a tunnel to politics and what's really strange is, you're complaining that he is taking a different path than Europe?
Are you saying that is he had taxed the filthy rich (like Europe does) that you would have agreed?
Like you agreed about health care? I mean, we are getting to be a lonely nation of ONE OF A KIND because we don't provide health care to the poor, or anyone for the most part, without insurance.
But I'm guessing that health care is NOT on your "nice list" even though it's the right thing to do.
Better yet would be free health care.

You see my confusion?
Should I go further? I can.
There are a plethora of items tossed on his porch that had nothing to do with him or his choices.
Just as well he also has a plethora of things he hasn't done.

But...
he still hasn't started a war and murdered over 4300 of our nation's troops...and he IS making some small strides towards dragging our spoile fat asses out of the fire.

BUT

After all the political this and that and who dunnit and who gives a flying rat's behind...

Are YOU ok?
Because THAT would be a concern to me.
Not Madonna
Not President Obama
Not Gary Johnson (who looks better to me all the time)(no...I'm NOT gay...)

But my friend...
She means something to me.
And it's worth the time to ask her..

Are you OK?

Don't cry dear K9, I saw part of Madonna's performance on the news, just because she made a spectacle of herself doesn't mean that we judge all Americans by her standards.
Gosh, there are enough bad things on the news about Australia, on the whole we're not a bad bunch, the media just like to sensationalise all of the controversial issues and make us look like a bunch of backward fools.
I hope you are OK, some time at Chickory where there is sanctuary and where the world is still peaceful will do you good.
Love you sweet girl, Dianne. xoxo ♡

boney: wake up. and thank you, I am *mostly* fine.

aunty: no, you wont see any time wasting this post. or any further posts. not trying to convince anybody of anything just on a dog rant - you can read it or not - play or ignore...

dianne: you know that getting back to Chickory will be the best thing to happen - and, God willin', that will be tomorrow. But it is important to understand that I am not so concerned about how madonna makes "us" look, but more about how gross such a spectacle is considering the state of the union. I do hate that when its a big show like this we dont have better artistry to present . thanks darlin'

The more in decline the empire, the more garish the spectacle. Same as it ever was . . .

like I mentioned, the important question was about you.

I'm afraid President Obama would have to perform a miracle to equal that clown circus of Bush junior's.

Heck, I don't really give a flying hoohah about Monsanto, either.
I have done well to slide away from MOST meats...
I eat like a bird.
You know...Stuffed to the gills with the plastic crap people throw away.
Fact is, genetics have had their way with our foods for a long time before I was born. Well, ok, since about six years before I was born.

It's food.
Food feeds people.
If we can make more then I think, GO FOR IT because today, another 20000 people will starve to death.
I wish there was someway to grab all those dumpsters behind all those fast food greasie spoons, and feed the starving people that (if they ate it)

But it STILL doesn't mean anything worth arguing about, eh?
And it doesn't make any difference who's party, which country, what war, or nothing.

Now, you coming back from Florida DOES account for thought and care.
THAT is important.

PERIOD.
none of the voodoo of the right wing, none of the needs or flailings of the candidates.
Not even the President of the united States of America...

NONE mean squat.
You, your dogs, your chickens, your man, and that damned Red Tail you got there munching on stray chickens is all that matters from your corner of the world.

There...

You should care about what Monsanto is up to Boneman. What i mean by "not worth arguing about" is what i said on new years day: not getting into fruitless rope a dope loops that never go anywhere. You can read all about evil M if you care too. But you are right about the other part: the part about deciding how I am going to run my own affairs - at least until the glittering she empress Madonna swoops down upon me, confiscates my land, sacrifices the chickens and delivers their blood in a silver chalice to the star chamber.

Wasn't trying to bait you with MJ, Dog. I didn't see Madonna's Obama-Bowl travesty nor anything else she's done this millenium. I did see the grotesque spectacle surrounding MJ's pedophilia trial and death however and thought there was similarity.

Do you think he and his handlers were significantly better human beings than Madonna and hers?

Color me confuzzled.

Madonna never went to rehab, I say, no, no, no. And I can think of a big bucketful of Hollyweirdos who deserved a much harder thump on the head. Let's examine her crimes: Ambition? Curiosity? Hunger? Wrangling a modicum of talent into a business that keeps a lot of people gainfully employed, even if it is pop music? Ain't no one said it was Shakespeare, but while I will allow that on the meter of cultural import, she may not fall as high as Camille Paglia would like to place her, but I'm also not throwing spit balls at her.

5:33 AM
Anonymous K9 said...

@moi: No no no! The "crime" was the spectacle and how perfectly it summed up our collective situation. You have a middle aged woman who is dressed and presented as she had been 20-25 years ago: thus, the false projection of what once was as being the same now -well, it isnt. then you had the weirdly almost satanic like golden imperial Rome costuming which made one consider the bread and circuses of entertainment culture and also reflect on the similarities in the path of decline of the two states; you had an opening about Vogue -which of course was her song but in this context, it was PERFECT in that it said to the country in effect - POSE - which is exactly what it is now - all posturing. No substance. Trading on past glory....etc. Ive got nothing against Madonna per se she just happened to be the central figure in a repulsive spectacle that summed up the worst aspects of our culture. Actually, i think in retrospect my response is sadness more than embarrassment.

I am no prude Moi - and you know that. I am saying at this stage in this american life wouldnt some humility be refreshing? How about if madonna had gone out and performed a medley of her songs in a reworked possibly more mature way? Not old, mature -grown up-substansive. Was being carried on the shoulders of LMFAO (yet another juicy unintentional irony) and having Nikki Minaj grind her ass on her hip while MIA flipped off the camera and released the F bomb what we want to project? Broke, plundered pitiful America in a classless vulgar extravaganza . It was awful.

@Troll: I can, and will make the distinction between Madonna and MJ. FOr starters, MJ was 5 years old when he became the working cash cow for an avaricious weirdo family motivated by greed. He never had a chance. He was so rich so young -so coddled that he never heard the words NO. In fact -when we consider both politicians and entertainers we see this same type of outrageous behaviors because they are surrounded by sycophants and enablers. MJ is a brilliant song writer, can actually dance - so much so that generations to come will be imitating and incorporating his style. I never saw a Michael Jackson performance that was vulgar. Ive seen lots of concert videos. As for the charges of being a pediphile I wont -cant- defend that. As to your question - MJ's handlers were far far worse than Madonnas. No contest.

No, I can't argue with your assessment of that particular show and its staging. You hit the nail on the head about what it revealed, and I agree with you. I was just making a case for Madonna in general. But the very nature of the Stupor Bowl half time dictates how the show must look. What is football anyway, except our version of Rome's gladiator games? One played mostly by the offspring of former slaves but watched and obsessed over by the offspring of former slave holders. And the Stupor Bowl is he epitome of fiddling and burning . . . I would love to know whose idea the staging was in this instance. Madonna's no dummy and I wouldn't put it past her to have made this statement in irony.
